A Shenzhen University delegation lead by President Zhang Bigong visited UCD to sign an agreement to begin a new Pre-Masters program at the Confucius Institute.
The new agreement allows fourth-year undergraduates from SZU’s Law School to join The Irish Institute for Chinese Studies’ new Pre-Masters Studies programme.
This course, the 4th year of a 3+1+1 model (students spend 3 years in China and 2 years at UCD), will not only prepare them for LLM study at UCD’s School of Law in Roebuck Castle, but also allow them to graduate with a SZU degree in Law at the end of the Pre-Masters year. The course begins on September 29th, 2008.
The delegation met representatives from The Smurfit School of Business (which already has a joint progamme with SZU), The Quinn School of Business, The School of Law, and The Confucius Institute/Irish Institute for Chinese Studies.
A historic moment
At the signing ceremony, President Zhang noted that it was a historic moment and another milestone in the continuing cooperation between SZU and UCD, while our own president, Dr. Hugh Brady, marked the occasion by saying UCD has enjoyed a friendship with SZU for the last couple of years and that the new agreement would greatly enhance future cooperation.
A visiting scholar from SZU has arrived at The Confucius Institute as part of the growing links and agreements between our universities. Dr. Liang Liyong, an expert of Chinese language and culture, is here to deliver lessons for the Institute. He will remain at UCD for the next year.
