In the afternoon, a public lecture was held by UCD Confucius Institute on Belfield campus. The keynote speaker Prof. Shen Dingli delivered a lecture entitled “Transition of Chinese Foreign Policy Under Xi: Framework and Approach”. According to Prof. Shen, a rising China with strong momentum in economic growth has brought about more opportunities to the rest of the world. Meanwhile, China’s rise has also altered the geo-economic and the geo-political balance of power in the world. For example, the initiatives of AIIB and the One Belt, One Road (The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road) program offer the future prospects of a better connected Eurasian continent. This would affect the management of the global commons which needs to reconcile with the concerns of the others. The lecture was followed up with a question and answer session and more than 100 audience attended this public lecture.
