On the 26th of February, the UCD Confucius Institute in conjunction with the UCD Chinese Students and Scholars Association hosted the 26th ''Confucius PhD Forum'' in Newman Building, UCD. More than 40 Chinese students participated in the forum.
Unlike previous forums, participants were not only Ph.D. students, but some postgraduates who intend to undertake Ph.D. programme and some Chinese teachers from the UCD Confucius Institute.
The forum invited three students from different fields to present their research results. Ms Cai Qi, a Ph.D. candidate studying Chemistry, presented herlatest research on “Gold Nanotechnology”. This was followed by two graduate students, MsHong Xinyi and MsCao Yu presented their research proposals on ‘the bilateral dairy trade between Ireland and China’and ‘the control of diabetes’respectively. Although the audience is from different fields, they actively engaged in questioning and providing many constructive suggestions for the two graduate students in particular, who are currently applying for their Ph.D. programmes. The forum brimmed over with hot debates and different academic views across the disciplines.
