MoA Singed Between the Headquarters and UCD in relation to the Model Confucius Institute Building at UCD

On October 26th, 2014, accompanied by Irish Ambassador to China, H.E. Paul Kavanagh, President of UCD, Professor Andrew J Deeks, and Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, Professor Liming Wang, Irish Minister for Education and Skills, Madam Jan O'Sullivan visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the Demonstration Centre of Chinese Culture of the Headquarters in Beijing. Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Madam Xu Lin and Deputy Chief Executive, Mr. Wang Yongli extended warm welcome to and met with the delegation.

During the visit, Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters of China, Madam Xu Lin and President of UCD, Professor Andrew J Deeks signed Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement Between the Confucius Institute Headquarters of China and University College Dublin in relation to Capital Funding for UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and the Agreement Renewal of the Confucius Institute of University College Dublin, witnessed by Minister Jan O’Sullivan. Professor Yi Zhihong, Vice President and Professor Lu Jie, Deputy Director of International Office of Renmin University of China, attended the signing ceremony. The Supplemental Agreement is now being executed in order to confirm the up to date position with regard to the capital funding and the next steps to enable the development of the building which will house the Institute. The building is expected to be constructed from next spring and will be officially opened in the autumn of 2016. It will become the first designated building specially designed for the Model Confucius Institute in the world.
