Sharing Motivating and Developing New Ideas
Ireland’s leading academic event for Chinese PhD students, the UCD Confucius PhD Forum sponsored by the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, has been running for 4 years now and has gone from strength to strength over the years. The main purpose of the Forum is to get students and scholars together to share ideas, keep up to date with new developments, motivate new members and promote new ideas, network with peers and discuss research experiences.
On Thursday 29th of November, the 19th Confucius PhD Forum was held again in the new Student Centre at UCD. Professor Liming Wang, the Honorary President of the Forum and the Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, delivered a speech on the history of this traditional event at the beginning of the forum and extended the warmest welcome to those students who have just begun their new student lives in Ireland.
Following Prof. Wang’s address, two invited keynote speakers took to the podium. Chao Yu, PhD in Modeling and linearization techniques of RF power amplifiers in wireless communication systems, introduced his research topic to the Forum. After a short break during which delicious Chinese cuisine was served, Jiayuan Chen, a PhD candidate from Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, gave her speech on the area of Market microstructure and energy finance, specifically introducing Information assimilation in the EU ETS: a microstructure study.
Both of the speakers received applause and appreciation from the audience and engaged in the absorbing Q&A sessions afterwards. This forum not only prides itself on the interactive sharing of ideas and cutting edge academic knowledge, but also provides excellent opportunities for PhDs to practice their oratory skills.
As the forum drew to a close, all the participating students took a memorable group shot with the Forum's honourable guests, keynote speakers and committee staff.
