A group of UCD students from the B.Comm with Chinese Studies Degree Program along with our UCD Chinese students enjoyed a Chinese Christmas celebration event held on the evening of 30th November 2006 at the UCD Quinn School of Business. Professor Aidan Kelly opened the celebration.
On Thursday 16th November 2006, the Blackrock Guild Dublin Federation, I.C.A. welcomed representatives from the Embassy of The Peoples Republic of China, and the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, to our International Night on China. Their visit was much anticipated by the ladies of the guild.
During his official State visit to Ireland the Chinese Vice-Premier, Mr Zeng Peiyan opened the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland on 26th September 2006. This joint venture between UCD, the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and Renmin University of China, offers courses and programmes in Chinese language and culture and aims to facilitate the expansion of economic ties between China and Ireland.
The establishment of the Centre for Chinese Studies, at UCD at the beginning of 2006 reflects both the University’s increasing emphasis on internationalizing the student experience and the growing importance of Ireland’s relationship with China. The main objective of the new Centre is to facilitate economic and cultural ties between China and Ireland through four main areas of activity: recruiting Chinese students, offering teaching programmes to Irish students, developing research programmes, and introducing outreach activities.
