On May 14th UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII) received the delegation from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JXUFE) headed by President Qiao Wang. Prof Liming Wang, Director of UCD CII, Prof Yongqiang Cai, Chinese Director of UCD CII, along with staff members of the Institute met with the delegates. The two parties explored possibilities of collaboration between JXUFE and UCD CII as well as discussed the development and issues of Confucius Institutes. Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Ireland also attended the meeting, including Economic & Commercial Counselor He Xue, First Secretary (Economic & Commercial) Luolan Jin and First Secretary of the Education Office Xiaochuang Wu. Two other guests were also present: Sihao Xiong, Dublin Bureau Chief at Xinhua News Agency and Prof Shjian He, a visiting scholar of UCD CII from the College of Arts and Design of Nanchang University, Jiangxi Province.
In partnership with Coventry University in England, JXUFE has established a new Confucius Institute which was officially opened recently. The purpose of the visit was to learn about UCD CII’s experience as one of the model Confucius Institutes in the world. Both sides exchanged views on teaching Chinese language, promoting Chinese culture and enhancing Confucius Institutes’ global profile. The host and guests also explored how overseas Confucius Institutes can be developed as a platform for the exchange between Chinese and foreign universities and for the promotion of Chinese language and culture.
