UCD CII Director Dr Liming Wang warmly received the Fudan University delegation headed by its Executive Vice President Yonghao Gui on September 8th. The other delegates in attendance were Director of Fudan University Foreign Affairs Office Wen Chen, Deputy Director of Fudan University Confucius Institute Office Lin Li and Director of Fudan University Medical School Office Rong Wu. The 2017-2018 Dublin Children’s Confucius Class welcomed nearly 260 current and new students on September 9, 2017. The new academic year offers 19 classes, including 12 all-Chinese classes and 7 bilingual classes based on students’ Chinese levels; the classes are divided into junior and senior groups based on their ages. The 2017 U.K. and Ireland Confucius Institutes Conference was successfully held in UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland on September 23rd. Along with the 100 representatives from over 30 U.K. and Irish Confucius Institutes were Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Deputy Director-General of Hanban and Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters P.R. China Mr. Guocheng Zhao, Minister of State for Higher Education Mary Mitchell O’Connor T.D. and UCD President Prof Andrew Deeks, who attended the opening ceremony and delivered keynote speeches. Following the arrival of a new group of volunteer Chinese teachers in Dublin on August 20th, 2017 and a nice break, the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (CII) held a one-week induction training for them. Read more
The National Concert Hall of Ireland was packed on the evening of July 26, for Dancing in the Clouds – Folk Singing and Dancing of West China Performance. This performance of 35 artists from the Yunnan Province Singing and Dancing Theatre was one of a series of events entitled Experience China—Cultural Exploration of West China. The spectacular show kindled the audience’s interest in cultural exploration. Read more
